It is fair to say that the importance of the ‘Waste Operative’ in many organisations is often greatly under estimated especially when you take time to consider the decisions they are required to make on a day to day basis. Whether it be waste separation, dealing with the waste carrier, working with tenants or liaising with managers, they are at the forefront of what happens to the company’s waste. Whilst there is clearly a legal requirement to train staff in the safe operation of waste processing equipment, it is often the case that little or no training is given to waste operatives when it comes to improving efficiency, controlling or reducing costs or indeed in legislative and health and safety matters.

The ‘Waste Operations Champion ’ training course addresses all of the above issues ‘head on’. As a two day intensive course designed for suitably motivated waste operatives or individuals seeking employment in the waste processing industry, the course starts from the basics of what is a waste stream, the different types of waste and how to deal with them utilising waste processing equipment. It also introduces the legislative topics and responsibilities of Health and Safety, PUWER, LOLER & PPE.

To round the first day off, the course takes all of the above knowledge and demonstrates how to incorporate it into the company’s waste processing operation and includes topics such as dealing with the waste carrier, documentation for operating a safe and efficient site, site process boards and much more. Armed with this knowledge, attendees will then progress to training in the operation of waste processing equipment such as compactors, balers, glass crushers, food processors and lifting & moving equipment.
